Highlights include recent representation of Aquaporin A/S on the development of a patent portfolio covering innovative water purification products; assisting Mode Diagnostics with applications for electrochemical devices supporting a personal test device for detecting gastrointestinal and bowel bleeding; and defending a European patent for Napier Turbochargers before the EPO Board of Appeals.

Partners singled out for praise

Stephen Gill’s expansive practice takes in the medical technology, mechanical engineering and transport spheres. Simon Kiddle comes recommended for “the ease with which he approaches all sorts of patent matters, for his problem-solving abilities and can-do attitude, and for his strategic handling of complicated matters”. Based in Bristol and Cambridge respectively, life sciences virtuosos Chris Denison and Seán Walton have won a loyal following of multinational pharmaceutical companies, US universities, research institutes and a raft of foreign businesses. Nick Sutcliffe works alongside them in the life sciences field; biotechnology, agricultural sciences and cleantech are fortes. Robert Watson has been advising KuDOS Pharmaceuticals, an AstraZeneca company, on its patent portfolio relating to Lynparza – an anti-cancer drug that was recently approved in the United States and Europe for BRCA mutated advanced ovarian cancer. Simon Kremer has been busy refining a patent strategy for WisTa’s treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

Recognition at the EPO

We are also delighted to be placed in the ‘gold’ top tier of the European Patent Office rankings.  We are one of only two UK firms  that made it into the top tier.  It is also particularly pleasing to see that two of our partners,  Simon Kremer and Jeremy Webster are highlighted individually in the short list of recommended attorneys.
