Autoliv sign agreement with Velodyne to commercialise LiDAR
Autoliv, the global leader in automotive safety systems, has signed an agreement with Velodyne LiDAR, a leading supplier of LiDAR technology for commercialising LiDAR, which is an important sensor technology for autonomous cars.
In accordance with the agreement, Autoliv will develop and market a scalable auto-grade LiDAR sensor using Velodyne’s core 3D software technology and proprietary LiDAR ASIC engine; using Autoliv’s component development and verification capability.
Both companies will contribute key components, technologies, know-how and other intellectual property needed to optimise the next generation of affordable, high performance LiDAR components in the automotive market. Autoliv will also serve as the primary commercial and technical interface to customers for awarded business.
Simon Parry works with Autoliv on their IP portfolio, and Stephen Carter does patent work for Velodyne, specifically in relation to LiDAR technology.
