Further progress has been made towards the opening of the Unified Patent Court and the Preparatory Committee has recently announced that the ‘provisional application phase’ of the UPC agreement is now expected to start at the end of May 2017.

The Unified Patent Court (UPC) Preparatory Committee has stated that it is working under the assumption that the UPC will become operational in December 2017. The UPC Agreement has been ratified by enough other countries that it will come into force when both Germany and the UK ratify.
