Open University win Cyber Security Innovation Award

16 November 2017

Congratulations to the team from Open University’s Computing and Communications Department for winning the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Award in the Cyber Security category on 15 November 2017. Professor Blaine Price, Dr. Arosha Bandara and Vikram Mehta received the award for their “Privacy Band” which is a wearable device for improving user awareness of personal information threats in real-time. It enables privacy to be managed in a direct, intuitive and non-obtrusive manner.

Responding to the award, Dr. Bandara said, “It is fantastic to get this recognition for the Privacy Band which gives us further motivation to continue to develop the device and refine it to a stage where it can be trialled at a larger scale.”

Stephen Hodsdon from our computing and electronics team works with the Open University team on their patent portfolio covering the Privacy Band invention.
