Adrian is in the life sciences patent team with a focus in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and agricultural science sectors.  He has particular experience in:

  • antibody engineering
  • synthetic biology
  • regenerative medicine including stem cell culture and differentiation
  • gene targeting and modification using ZFN and Crispr/Cas9 technologies
  • plant and animal genomics e.g. engineering plants with transcription factor genes for stress and drought tolerance and modification of fatty acid composition in canola oil
  • protein crystallography
  • industrial plant biotechnology and biofuel production

He deals mainly with prosecution and oppositions/appeals.  Adrian also has experience of UK litigation and patent office proceedings, as well as US interference proceedings.

Adrian represents a wide range of applicants at the EPO, including US and European and Australian applicants from a variety of institutions, ranging from small start-ups to large companies.

Adrian has a BSc in genetics from University College, London and PhD in molecular biology from Imperial College, London.

Adrian joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 1997 after working in another private practice from 1987. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 1992.  He joined the partnership in 1998.
