Graham handles patent work in the life sciences field with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

Graham has particular expertise in:

  • peptide therapeutics
  • immunology
  • enzyme technology
  • protein engineering

Graham’s practice encompasses drafting and prosecution, as well as a considerable amount of offensive and defensive opposition and appeal work before the EPO. He has been extensively involved in the drafting, coordination and prosecution of large patent portfolios covering pharmaceutical products and was recently successful in defending an opposition against a patent covering a product in Phase II clinical trials.

Recognised in The Legal 500 Graham is praised for his “attention to detail” (2014),  named as a “key contact in the life sciences group” (2015) and considered “highly active on the life sciences side”(2016).

Graham’s clients include UK universities and pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies in Europe and the US.

Graham has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford with a PhD in molecular biology from Imperial College, London. His PhD project focussed on human endogenous retroviruses.

Graham joined Mewburn Ellis in 1999 qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2004 and a European Patent Attorney in 2003. He joined the partnership in 2006. Graham was awarded a Higher Courts Litigation Certificate in 2015 allowing him to conduct intellectual property litigation in all relevant courts, including the Patents Court (High Court), the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and on appeal from the Patents Court or the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court.
