Julie handles patent work in the chemical & materials team, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical and agricultural science sectors. She is also a member of our dispute resolution team.

Julie’s work encompasses drafting, prosecution and opposition as well as opinion work (freedom to operate/infringement/patentability).
Julie has a degree and PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Cambridge. Her PhD project focussed on methodology for the synthesis of heterocycles, using organosulphur chemistry. Her post-doctoral research at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium involved research into uses of multilamellar phospholipid vesicles. Her post-doctoral research at King’s College, London included research into synthetic methodology and approaches to natural products.
She passed (with Distinction) the Intellectual Property Litigation and Advocacy course at Nottingham Law School and was subsequently awarded the Higher Courts Litigation Certificate, providing enhanced rights to conduct IP litigation in the UK courts.
Julie joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2005, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2008 and a European Patent Attorney in 2009. She obtained a Higher Courts Litigation Certificate in 2013. Julie joined the partnership in 2013.
