Rachel is a member of our chemistry & materials and engineering patent teams and has experience working in a number of industry sectors including transport, Medtech, food & beverage, industrial chemistry, mechanical & structural engineering and Cleantech. Her expertise includes:
Rachel deals mainly with original drafting, prosecution, opposition and opinion work. Her clients include British universities, UK-based SMEs, domestic and overseas corporations.
Rachel has a degree in chemistry and a PhD in polymer chemistry from the University of Durham. Her PhD project was in electrostrictive polymers for biomedical applications.
She has experience working in an analytical science department in a large pharmaceutical company.
Rachel is recommended by peers in ‘Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Stars 2015′.
Rachel joined Mewburn Ellis in 1998, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 2002. She spent nearly two years working in the Australian patent system dealing with Australian and New Zealand patent prosecution and opposition. Rachel returned to Mewburn Ellis at the beginning of 2006 and joined the partnership in 2007.
She still maintains close ties to Australia, visiting clients there and speaking at the annual Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorney of Australia conference. She also regularly visits Asia attending APAA each year where she had a particular interest in meeting with Indian and Taiwanese attorneys.
