Stephen handles patent work in the engineering and electronics, computing & physics fields with particular experience in the transport, structural & mechanical engineering, computer software, Medtech, consumer products and electronics & electronic engineering industry sectors. Stephen is also an experienced member of our designs team working across a wide range of industries.

Stephen is recommended in the 2017 edition of The Legal 500 where a client describes him as ‘good on the details‘. He is also recommended in the Managing Intellectual Property: IP Stars 2017, where he is said to provide ‘deeply considered analysis of the law‘ .
His clients include universities, SMEs, and multinational companies. He has experience advising start-up companies and has previously contributed to publications aimed at providing IP business advice to start-ups.
Stephen has a degree and MPhil (Masters) in mechanical engineering from University of Bath with specialisations including internal combustion engines and biomechanics.
Stephen joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 1994, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 1998. He worked for a large law firm from 2000-2004 gaining experience in IP litigation and due diligence work for corporate transactions and IPOs before re-joining Mewburn Ellis LLP as a partner in 2004.
