凯瑟琳对中国的专利法和实践非常感兴趣，并且曾在北京一家知识产权代理事务所实习，该事务所是中国最大的知识产权代理事务所之一。
凯瑟琳拥有剑桥大学自然科学（生物化学）理科硕士学位。基于对活性氧物种（ROS）生成和胰岛β细胞代谢效率的研究，她还取得了剑桥大学的博士学位。 在医学研究理事会（MRC）线粒体生物学部攻读博士期间，凯瑟琳研究了某些线粒体内膜蛋白在活性氧物种生成和在线粒体三磷酸腺苷（ATP）合成效率中所起的作用，并且研究了针对二型糖尿病的潜在机制和治疗策略。
凯瑟琳于2006年加入Mewburn Ellis专利事务所，并于2010年获得欧洲专利代理人和特许专利代理人资格。她于2014年成为事务所合伙人。
