Mewburn Ellis strengthens European trade mark practice with partner hire in Munich office
Mewburn Ellis LLP has strengthened its European trade mark practice with the addition of partner Dydra Donath to the firm’s Munich office.
A highly experienced German national trade mark attorney with a doctorate in law, Donath joins from Winter, Brandl, Fürniss, Kaiser, Polte, where she has been a salary partner since 2003.
She will be responsible for driving forward not only Mewburn Ellis’ German trade mark practice, but further developing the firm’s well-established EU trade mark practice.
Mewburn Ellis has undertaken European IP work for domestic and international clients for many years, operating from its four UK offices, located in London, Bristol, Cambridge and Manchester. However, the firm established its Munich base, located near the European Patent Office, in November 2017 following a period of significant growth in the UK.
Donath brings to Mewburn Ellis particular expertise across all aspects of German, European and international trade mark law, including consulting and managing large trade mark portfolios worldwide, strategy for trade mark applications, opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings, coordinating legal proceedings worldwide, domain name disputes, drafting and negotiating trade mark licence agreements, complex trade mark purchase agreements as well as settlement agreements. She also brings litigation experience, having taken cases before the German courts and the General Court in Luxembourg.
She has a particular focus on medical technology, pharmaceuticals, automobile, retail, fashion, cosmetics, food and supplements, plus surveillance technology. A member of the German Bar Association, the German Association for Industrial Property and Copyright, and a committee member of the MARQUES Emerging Issues Team, Donath has lectured across Germany and in Russia.
Beyond trade mark services, Donath will work alongside Munich partners Tanis Keirstead and Christoph Moeller in further expanding the Mewburn Ellis Munich office across its comprehensive range of patent, trade mark and design services – including drafting, prosecution, oppositions, litigation, IP strategy consulting and portfolio management.
Mewburn Ellis Munich partner Dydra Donath commented:
“I am delighted to join Mewburn Ellis. The firm is undergoing a period of impressive growth, not only in Munich, but across its entire range of IP services. I very much look forward to helping drive that growth still further, not least in relation to the firm’s EUIPO work, for which it has an excellent reputation”.
Munich partner Tanis Keirstead commented:
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dydra to Mewburn Ellis. Her formidable experience will be invaluable as we cement our reputation as the preeminent European IP firm.
“2017 saw Mewburn Ellis not only celebrate its 150th anniversary, but also open its new Munich office. As we begin 2018, our prospects for further growth mean we could not be more excited about what the future holds”.
Mewburn Ellis’ new Munich base represents an expansion of the firm’s intellectual property services overall and will not only enhance the firm’s ability to service its EU-based clients, but also its large portfolio of non-EU and international clients, including those from across the US, Japan, South Korea, elsewhere in Europe and more.
The firm’s wide-ranging portfolio of clients includes start-ups and innovative challenger brands, research institutions and universities, through to multinationals and many of the world’s most well-respected IP and law firms.
