He is experienced in helping start-up companies and SMEs build and manage their patent portfolios and has particular expertise in the nuclear sector and in the field of optics & photonics.

Background
Alex has a MPhys degree in Physics and a DPhil in Atomic & Laser Physics, both from the University of Oxford. His research was focussed on designing and implementing high-power laser experiments exploring inertial confinement approaches to nuclear fusion at major international laboratories dedicated to laser-driven fusion in the US, the UK and in Europe including the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the Central Laser Facility. This work involved the development of ancillary technology associated with fusion research including new diagnostic equipment and the application of innovative computing approaches.
Alex joined Mewburn Ellis in 2019. After spending time at a full-service law firm, Alex returned to Mewburn Ellis in 2022 and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2023.
