Empowering Young Minds with CREST Star Kit Boxes

At Mewburn Ellis, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. That’s why we are delighted to continue our partnership with the British Science Association (BSA) by supporting the development and distribution of 15 ‘Star’ level CREST kit boxes, helping to overcome key challenges that teachers face in schools across the UK.

These specially designed kits provide everything a teacher needs to run CREST Star activities with their class, aimed at children aged 3 to 7 years old. Packed with essential equipment like marbles, thermometers, beakers, and stopwatches, along with activity cards, instructions, badges, and certificates, the kits make it easier than ever for teachers to bring STEM to life in their classrooms—especially in schools serving underrepresented communities.

Vijay Jassal, Director of Development and External Relations at the BSA, shares:

"We are very grateful for our continued partnership with Mewburn Ellis. Our mission is to improve young people’s experience of science in their education, and Mewburn Ellis’ ongoing support has been instrumental in expanding our work with schools in disadvantaged circumstances. These new kit boxes will provide vital opportunities for young people to experience hands-on, project-based learning, bringing science to life in a truly inspiring way."

The teachers and their students who receive the kits this academic year will benefit directly from this generous donation, but the impact will be felt for years to come. Many of the materials can be reused, and new training videos—also made possible by Mewburn Ellis’ support—will build teacher confidence and ensure they are equipped to run CREST activities again in the future.

Activities like The Peggy Problem, where children test the grip strength of different pegs, spark curiosity and critical thinking—laying the foundation for a love of science at an early age.

We’re excited to see how these kits will help inspire young minds, encourage creativity, and build confidence in science from an early age. This initiative is another step toward our shared vision with the BSA—to increase diversity and inclusivity in STEM, providing more young people with the opportunity to engage in science, no matter their background.
