Mewburn Ellis has donated over £1,000,000 to charity

Today marks International Day of Charity (September 5th), since 2020, we have donated over £1,000,000 to charity from our Forward Community Program Charity Fund, supporting local, national, and international causes.

Major donations include £20,000 to support the British Science Association and their CREST Awards programme, as part of an ongoing partnership exceeding £148,000 in support since 2020. The 2024 donation will be used to create kit boxes to help teachers inspire young people who are under-represented in STEM. As well as £40,000 to the National Literacy Trust, a charity that empower people with the literacy skills they need to succeed in life and helping people change their stories.

Other charities we are supporting include: £10,000 donated to Rewilding Britain to reconnect us with the natural world, sustain communities and tackle the extinction and climate crises; £7,500 to Mothers for Mothers who are not only reducing isolation, but also promoting confidence, better relationships and safe spaces for all, whatever their background or experience; and £12,500 to Mind Out a mental health service run by and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) people. The full list of charities we are supporting this year is below.

Mewburn Ellis Community Champion Maria Hall comments:

“This International Day of Charity, we want to celebrate the contributions of our charitable partners towards the creation of a more inclusive and resilient society. In supporting like-minded forward-thinking organisations, we have played a small part in helping the communities we work and live in. Our focus is on helping to lower barriers to vital areas such food poverty increasing academic access, and mental health. We also champion gender equality, sustainability and inclusion and diversity causes on a national and local scale.

It has been enormously fulfilling to witness the real, credible impact that our Forward Community programme has had over the past years. We wanted to design a programme that was stitched into the fabric of our company. By growing our financial contributions in line with our profits and building multi-year partnership and volunteering programs aligned to employee interests, our community giving is an embedded part of the work we do as a firm."

Vijay Jassal, Director of Development and External Relations at the BSA comments:

“We are very grateful for our continued partnership with Mewburn Ellis. Our mission is to improve young peoples' experience of science in their education, and continued support from Mewburn Ellis has made an important contribution by funding the expansion of our work supporting schools in disadvantaged circumstances. I'm so pleased that this new donation will help us inspire, engage and connect with even more young people with science. These new kit boxes will benefit our Engage community of teachers, who all work in schools in challenging circumstances, and will provide vital opportunities for young people to experience project-based learning that brings science to life.”

2024/2025 Community Giving Program

Community giving is structured on both a firmwide and local office level to ensure maximum impact is achieved in the industries and communities in which we operate. Further, we also support charities specific to our corporate values as represented through employee network groups including the WoMEn of Mewburn Ellis Network, the I&D Collaboration Group, and the LGBTQ+ME Group. Alongside financial support, everyone that works at Mewburn Ellis receives one community day per year to support causes of their choosing.
