Paul’s focus is primarily in the polymers and polymer composite materials field, he has particular interest in “green” polymer materials. His time is spread broadly across patent preparation, prosecution, and opposition work. He regularly handles opposition and appeal hearings at the EPO, where he has an excellent track record of obtaining successful outcomes for clients. He also has particular experience in coordinating third party observations against 3rd party patent applications in both Europe and the US.

Background
Paul has a first class degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, which focussed on the development and application of single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy techniques to live cell systems. He has a certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London, receiving the prize for best overall marks within his year group. He qualified as a Charted Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2014.
Paul carried out a two month placement with a US law firm based in Nashville, Tennessee, and continues to visit the US regularly. These experiences have helped Paul to gain useful insights into the patent system in the US, which he carries forward into his day-to-day practice.
