In addition Paul offers freedom to operate (FTO) and IP clearance assistance as well as pre-action correspondence. Paul regularly conducts oral hearings at the EPO (examination division and opposition), boards of appeal, and has carried out advocacy at UKIPO revocation proceedings. Paul has litigated cases at the IPEC including a successful Appeal on the determination of an account of profits (OOO Abbott v Design and Display).

Paul is a dual qualified European and UK Patent & Trade Mark Attorney. He also holds the Higher Courts Litigation Certificate. Paul qualified as a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2009. He qualified as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and a European design attorney in 2012.
Before entering the IP profession in 2005, Paul completed a PhD researching the manufacture of Opto-Electronic circuit boards and components at Loughborough University. His practical experience included lithography techniques, thin-film processes for semi-conductor manufacturing, and contract electronics manufacture.
