Read our law and practice guidesFynn is a part-qualified patent attorney in our chemistry and materials team. He is experienced at all stages of the patent lifecycle, from drafting to defending. Fynn approaches his work with a focus on detail and a commitment to excellence, drawing from the wider legal, technical and commercial context to ensure he provides clients with clear, appropriate and well-reasoned advice. He works with clients from diverse backgrounds, from academic institutions and start-ups to multinational corporations. Fynn enjoys using his skills and knowledge to help clients develop and protect their green technologies and is driven by his passion for innovation and sustainability. He is particularly drawn to projects that have a positive impact on the environment and believes that intellectual property can be a powerful tool to drive sustainable solutions and address global challenges.
Fynn is actively involved in sustainability initiatives and is member of Mewburn Ellis’s sustainability committee and supports local conservation charities through the firm’s Forward Community Programme.
Qualifications and Technical Background
Fynn has a first class Master's (MChem) degree from the University of Oxford. During his undergraduate degree, he completed research projects modelling battery cathode materials and ion transport as well as ab initio modelling of quantum tunnelling processes. His Master’s thesis centred around simulating the ultrafast dynamics of photo-excited, conjugated polymers and developing novel ways of extracting information through experiment.
Fynn would class himself as a generalist, but he has particular experience, knowledge and interest in areas including:

Professional Career
Fynn joined Mewburn Ellis in 2021 and has since passed the Bournemouth University Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, and become a part-qualified UK and European Patent Attorney.
Fynn organises the internal lunchtime learning seminars for the chemistry practice group, which allows him to keep up to date with the latest developments in law and practice.
Fynn has a particular interest in battery technology, and has attended previous Faraday Institution conferences, running IP training seminars for PhD researchers at one such event.

Fynn has written numerous articles for the firm’s website on a range of topics including next-generation battery technology, advanced materials and selective chemical synthesis.
