Urs helps many companies working at the frontiers of science and technology to build their IP portfolios and grow their businesses. He is genuinely enthusiastic about the different solutions these companies offer and the technical areas into which they are expanding.

Urs' enthusiasm benefits his clients – he wants them to succeed and takes pride in helping them to do so by fully understanding their technical solutions and providing the best legal service based on that understanding.

Urs has worked with several start-up companies. He has gained experience designing an IP strategy that contributes to the commercial success of the startups as well as being attractive to inventors.

A focus of Urs' work is in the fields of quantum technology and medical devices. Urs has a special interest in optics and microscopy.

Urs has experience of original patent drafting and prosecution at the EPO and DPMA (German Patent and Trade Mark Office). He regularly represents clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO and DPMA.

Background

Urs has a master’s degree in physics from the University of Ulm with focus on biophysics. He then completed his PhD at University College Dublin at the Conway Institute for Biomolecular and Biomedical Research. Urs qualified as a German Patent and Trademark attorney and as a European Trademark and Design Attorney in 2015. He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2016. Urs joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2020.
