Andrew is in our electronics, computing & physics and engineering patent teams with experience across a number of industry sectors including electronics & electronic engineering, FinTech, semiconductors, aerospace, telecommunications, oil & gas, renewable energy, and mechanical engineering.

His practice primarily involves original patent drafting, prosecuting patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO) and UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO), global patent portfolio management, and advising on global patent filing strategies, patent validity and patent infringement. Andrew has experience working with a wide range of different clients from start-ups to multi-nationals.
Andrew trained and qualified as a patent attorney in the UK, but he has spent time working as a patent attorney in Singapore and Canada. In Singapore, he specialised in providing advice on obtaining patent protection throughout Southeast Asia, China, and the Indian subcontinent. In Canada, he developed an expertise in obtaining patent protection in Canada and the US. Also, Andrew began his patent career working in the in-house patent department of Rolls-Royce PLC.
Andrew is particularly knowledgeable about the patentability of software and business-related inventions.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi), and the Association of Singapore Patent Attorneys (ASPA). He is a regular visitor to Asia and North America.
Andrew has a first class Masters degree in Electronic Engineering (MEng) from Cardiff University.
Andrew qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2010, and as a Singapore Patent Attorney in 2012. He joined Mewburn Ellis as a partner in 2018.
