Louise Carr

Louise handles patent and design work in our electronics, computing & physics and engineering teams. Her work is focussed on the medical device, computer software, optics and mechanical and electrical engineering sectors.

Louise’s day to day work includes drafting and prosecuting applications in the UK and at the EPO and defending opposed patents at the EPO. She also has experience working with local attorneys to prosecute applications in jurisdictions around the world including the US and China and works for a range of clients, from individuals and SMEs to large multinationals.

She has particular experience in the following areas:

  • medical devices such as retinal implants, stents, and cryogenic storage,
  • photonic and optoelectronic devices,
  • civil engineering including earthquake shields, car parks and building facades
  • computer hardware/software including systems for controlling power stations and internet communication, and
  • automotive components such as LiDAR, air bags, hydraulic braking systems and engine components.

Louise has an MPhys degree from the University of Exeter and undertook two years of research focussed on polymer nanoparticles used to encapsulate pharmaceuticals and the use of Raman spectroscopy to image these molecules label-free.

Louise joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2015 qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 2018. Louise is also an authorised Design Representative before the EUIPO.
