Richard is in our electronics, computing & physics and engineering patent teams with experience in a wide range of industry sectors including electronics & electronic engineering, Medtech, semiconductors, structural & mechanical engineering, telecommunications, nanotech, consumer products & Cleantech. Richard is also a member of our design team having experience in obtaining Registered Community Designs.

His practice encompasses:

He deals with patent prosecution at the European Patent Office and UK Intellectual Property Office, and the development and management of patent portfolios for clients in the UK and abroad. He is experienced in original drafting work focused particularly on control electronics in medical devices, semiconductor metrology techniques and optical sensors.

Richard is particularly knowledgeable about the patentability of software and business-related inventions at both the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office.

He is member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and is a regular visitor to  both China and the US.

Richard has a Masters degree (MPhys) in physics from University of Oxford.

Richard joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2001, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2005. He joined the partnership 2008.
