The Bessemer Society Dinner – Liverpool Open to the World

On Thursday 10 May 2018, Mewburn Ellis sponsored The Bessemer Society Regional Dinner hosted at the iconic Sensor City, Liverpool. Partner Jeremy Webster and Associate Sarah Brearley attended the event and greatly enjoyed the evening.

Sensor City was designed to mimic the look of a sensor chip. It is a collaboration between the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University which acts as a global hub for the development of sensor technologies and an incubator with open access laboratory for sensor related start-ups. This was a highly fitting location for the dinner which celebrated entrepreneurial ambition in the region.

The key speakers presented on the Victorian history of their companies, the vision for their companies in the future and discussed their connection to the North West. This resonated with the Mewburn attendees as it mirrors our own company story – founded in the Victorian era, we recently celebrated 150 years of innovation and are now looking forward to the future to continue innovating and having a positive social impact.

Following the speeches, there was a discussion amongst the attendees that covered some key themes such as funding in the North West, forming business coalitions to bid for larger funding and the opportunities that come with working with China and the Silicon Valley.
