Tour de

Mewburn 2022

About the Tour

The Tour de Mewburn is a multi-day cycling tour between our four UK offices to raise funds for our Manchester office charity, The Christie Charitable Fund as part of their The Christie Challenge. We will also be raising funds for our other UK office charities.

The Christie Challenge is an initiative to raise money through the completion of different challenges between September 2021 – September 2022.

The Tour de Mewburn will travel between our UK offices over five days and covers a distance of 633 km (393 miles) and it has an elevation gain of 5124 m (16811 ft). Our team members participating in the whole tour are Rob Walker, Joe Newcombe and Florian Zobel, with the remaining 17 team members cycling one or more of the individual stages. The Team will start at our Manchester office on Monday 20 June and will finish five days later at our Bristol office on Friday 24 June.

Stage 1 - Manchester office to Melton Mowbray

Stage 1 starts out of central Manchester and straight into the Peak District! After passing by The Christie in Didsbury, the first stage takes in some of the best riding in the Peaks, including Brickworks Climb, the Goyt Valley, Chrome Hill and High Peak Trail. 168 km and over 2000 m of climbing later, the team will arrive in Melton Mowbray for a well earned pork pie and some rest.

Stage 2 - Melton Mowbray to Cambridge office

Stage 2 offers those that completed stage 1 the chance for some (relative) recovery, with 120 km and 764 m of climbing to cover, with the majority of that coming in the first quarter of the stage as the route takes in Rutland Water and heads towards the picturesque town of Stamford. From here the route heads south-east and it's a flat run-in, skirting the Fens, towards Cambridge.

Stage 3 - Cambridge office to London office

Stage 3 sets off from our office north of Cambridge city centre and winds along the River Cam into the centre of Cambridge and along Kings Parade. Having taken in several of the colleges of Cambridge, the route heads up into the hills of North Essex before dipping down inside the M25 and through Epping Forest for the final dash into central London to polish off another 109 km.

Stage 4 - London office to Oxford

Stage 4 is straight onto the banks of the Thames, which the route follows for most of the first 40 km of the stage, cutting off a few meanders to head through Richmond Park and Bushy Park. Windsor Great Park marks the end of Greater London and it's then for Oxfordshire the team will head, crossing the Thames again at Henley before climbing into the Chilterns via Pishill, technically England's longest road ascent at 11.6 km (even if the average gradient is only 2%!), and descending (substantially more steeply) onto the South Oxfordshire plains for a fast run into Oxford to finish off 120 km of riding for the day.

Stage 5 - Oxford to Bristol office

The final stage is a game of avoiding the A420 as the route heads down from Oxford to Bristol over 116 km. The team will head west through the Vale of White Horse and parallel to the imposing ridge line of the North Wessex Downs, before skirting around Swindon and into Malmesbury. There is then a brief foray into the southernmost reaches of the Cotswolds for the final major hills of the tour before the route joins the Bristol-Bath cycle path to whisk the team into the centre of Bristol.
