For centuries ceramic materials have been used for a variety of different purposes, their unique properties making them particularly suitable for use as insulators, building materials, and homeware materials. However, more recently ceramic materials and ceramic-based composites have found uses in a vast number of new fields, from automotive exhaust gas filtration to semiconductor manufacture, friction-resistant precision engineering to knife blades. Having worked with ceramics manufacturers worldwide for many decades, our experience and knowledge of this sector is unrivalled.
Our team has worked for many years with some of the world’s biggest ceramics innovators and manufacturers. We have prosecuted applications to allowance at the EPO, UKIPO and around the world, and defended granted patents through attack by competitors. This has allowed our clients to secure significant market share in their chosen fields, and helped them protect that market share to maximise return.
We have significant technical experience handling inventions related to oxide ceramics such as zirconia and alumina, and non-oxide ceramics such as silicon carbide and Si-SiC composites for example in the fields of filtration and sensing. We also have experience of functional ceramics for electronics applications such as polycrystalline GaN.
The team includes attorneys with backgrounds in materials science, chemistry and engineering meaning we are comfortable we can advise no matter the nature of the innovation. Our broad experience means that all aspects of an invention can be considered and treated expertly, even where an invention spans several fields.
